Obituary for Frank Blaszczuk

BLASZCZUK – Frank Blaszczuk passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family at the Welland Hospital on Wednesday, July 9, 2008 in his 85th year. Beloved husband of Bernice (nee Konop) for 59 years. Loving father of Barbara and her husband Tony Gallaccio. Cherished grandfather of Dr. Alicia Gallaccio (Chris Caporicci), and Lauren Gallaccio. He was predeceased by 2 brothers and 3 sisters. Frank was deported by the Russians from Poland to the USSR in 1940 where he was released on amnesty in 1940. He joined the Polish Army in USSR on February 24, 1942. Evacuated with his unit to Persia and came under British command in the Middle East on April 1, 1942 where he served from 1942 – 1943 and in Italy from 1943 – 1946. Frank took part in the Italian operations from December 12, 1943 to May 2, 1945. After his honourable discharge he immigrated to Canada. Frank was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Church and the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 4 and the former Branch 558 (Polish Branch). He retired from Page Hersey with over 35 years of service. Frank was extremely dedicated to his family and they will remember him as a loving selfless man who always put others before himself. He was a man who loved to travel and his stories of Mexico will always make his family smile. The family will receive their friends at J.J. Patterson & Sons Funeral Residence 19 Young Street, Welland on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. where a Vigil will be held at 8 o’clock. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Sts. Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Church on Friday morning at 11 o’clock. Rite of Committal will follow at Pleasantview Mausoleum. As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to Sts.
